About Me

Rachael Quisel is a freelance writer and editor who specializes in journalism, creative nonfiction, and kidlit. Their work can be found in the Huffington Post, the Santa Barbara Independent, and the Montecito Journal. Their flash nonfiction piece, “Departure,” was nominated for the 2022 Pushcart Prize. Their short story, “The Clan of Good Cats,” was a finalist in Under the Sun’s 2021 Summer Writing Contest. They’ve been accepted into competitive writing programs including a Tin House intensive as well as Mary Kole’s Story Mastermind. When not writing, they’re reading the slush pile for the Harvard Review, managing their hospitality business, and being walked by their cats.
